Workshop on ‘How to Achieve One’s dream and Goals’
The department of DDGM at Sophia Polytechnic had a very insightful and enlightening experience on Tuesday the 21st of November, 2017. The guest lecturer for the day was Mr. Chinmay Joshi. He spoke about how to realize our dreams and goals. He also exhorted the students to cast out uncertainty if any in their said goals. It was an interactive session in which students came up and spoke about their experiences and dreams.

National Conference on Sustainability in Fashion
National Conference on Sustainability in Fashion “Creating A
Global Vision” held on 15th and 16th September, 2017 at IIS
university – Jaipur
Dr. Jignasa Shah and Mrs. Manisha Saji’s paper on “Khadi with a Rogan Connection” was selected as one of the 14 from 65 entries for “oral presentation” and they won the 3rd prize.
Field Trip to Baramati
The Second Year DDGM students of Sophia Polytechnic went on a
industrial
visit to Baramati, to gain knowledge about Sericulture and
different ways of Planting and Harvesting. They visited "Cotton
King" the garment industry and gained knowledge about machineries,
and sequence of processes used in the industry for apparel
construction. Not only that but they also went to visit the shirt
weaving industry.

An Educational tour along with sightseeing was conducted for the second year students to Amritsar, Manali and Chandigarh for the duration between 24th February and 6th March 2015.
FACTORY VISITS
BADDI
GINI & JONY LTD.: Functioning of the factory. Most interesting thing was the water soluble thread and magic pen and their application.
VARDHMAN FABRIC DYEING UNIT: One of the best units visited by us. The entire process of dyeing viz mercerization, tentering, washing, sueding, steaming, drying, flaw detection and packing were the highlights of the visit.
Tvashtar - The Annual Fashion Show
Before the final year students leave they give full expression to their creativity and depth of knowledge of the industry through an aesthetically designed Fashion Show--- TVASHTAR.
Tvashtar showcases the creations of the students to give them the much-needed exposure to the industry.
MAX Design Awards
Congratulations to Ms
Cyron Rodrigues, TYDDDGM student, who has been chosen as a finalist
amongst the top 15 contestants across India to showcase her
creations during the ‘Max Design Awards’. The theme this year
is “Craftivism” which focuses on sustainability and saving the
environment. Cyron’s perspective is giving discarded clothes
a new life by recycling them into a new fabric. She also uses
denim which is dyed using the traditional method of underground pit
dyeing with vegetable dyes.
She will be showcasing her
garments on 21st February 2018 at Delhi. We are very proud of

Fashion Marketing lecture
PIDILITE WORKSHOP organised for 2nd year students
A two-day Pidilite workshop was conducted on 27th and 28th November 2017, for our second year students. A representative from Pidilite demonstrated the use of Pidilite products for creating various stationery items like paper weights, clothing accessories etc. The students learnt to apply various art and craft techniques using these products such as Kalamkari, Warli and Madhubani paintings. The girls even tied and dyed their own fabrics using Pidilite colours. The workshop was a fun learning experience.
Students Indstry Interaction
The second-year DDGM students had an opportunity to participate in the SS’18 five days promotional and sales event in August, 2017 organised by Spykar Jeans at ‘The Lalit’, Mumbai.
They also had an opportunity to participate in the similar seven days event organised by DEAL Jeans in September, 2017.

ANNUAL EXHIBITION 19th and 22nd FEBRUARY

Unlike every year first year students displayed all the subjects
pertaining to the three years of the course. This made it clear to
the visitors to understand the flow of work in each subject. There
were two prizes for the first year. Shield was won by the group who
worked on the subject Design Process - Niti Parekh, Minakshi
Choudhary, Blosam Paul, Reema Khadpe, Rafia Siddiqui, Kalyani
Kalpalatha, Nikita Lassi and Nidhi
Ajmera. Cup was
bagged by the group who displayed the subject Fashion Illustration
- Sania Fonseca, Pooja Yadav, Shefali Jain, Violet D’Souza,
Rajvi Kotian, Rusheka Patel, Hiral Sumra, Ritu Manjrekar and
Radhika Bothra.
As had been the practice second year students designed their collection for the stall meant to be for exhibition cum sale. They made a very good sale this year. First prize for the best collection was won by Ms. Amanda Nazareth and the second prize was given to Ms. Jeel Desai.
This year final year students chose garment display instead of
Tvashtar.
Ms. Vishwa Shah and Ms. Bhakti Tanawade got highest marks
in the Design development Project and second rank in Visual Display
while Ms. Paridhi and Ms. Vruti got highest
marks.
Forecast for Spring Summer 2016’
A Workshop on’ Forecast for Spring Summer 2016’, by a representative of the International Trend Council was organised by Sophia Polytechnic Dress Designing and Garment Manufacturing department in association with the School of Fashion Technology, Pune, on 19th January 2015. The speaker was Mr. Ash Ali, a designer and part of the Fashion forecast Team with Trend Council. The workshop was aimed at educating on women’s and men’s wear for themes, looks, prints, flat sketches, accessories & retail and denims. Staff & students from various fashion institutes across Mumbai namely S.N.D.T, B.D Somani, Nirmala Niketan, NIFT (Mumbai) and Rachana Sansad attended the programme. The feedback was taken and it was much appreciated by all as it would help them in design development.
